SCRIPTURE: “In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.” (Lk. 14:33 NIV)
OBSERVATION: Following Jesus is serious business. That doesn’t mean being a disciple is without joy, but being a disciple is no joke. It takes a willingness to adjust the priorities of our lives. In order to be a disciple, Jesus is saying that we must put our Master and what he desires in first position.
APPLICATION: I’ve been following Jesus for many years, but if I’m not attentive, I notice a drift towards simply getting comfortable. Jesus does not call us to be comfortable. I have adjusted priorities many times in my life, but I’ve come to realize there is a daily adjustment that needs to be made. I choose today to make him first – to submit my agenda to his.
PRAYER: Lord, I want you to be first priority in my life. Following you is the reason I am alive. Show me any adjustments I need to make today, and thank you for giving me the power to make them.
