SCRIPTURE: …and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (Eph. 4:24 NIV)
OBSERVATION: In the context of this verse, Paul uses a picture of changing clothes, instructing us to (1) take off the old self, (2) pick up God’s way of thinking, and (3) put on a new self. Like Jesus the Messiah, this new self is “like God!” The new self is a “New Me” that is created to be like God in “righteousness” – I do what Jesus does. It is also like God in “holiness” – I am different than the rest of the world.
APPLICATION: By embracing the New Me, I am choosing to think and behave differently than people who don’t follow Jesus. Sometimes, this is easy. Other times, this is difficult because it brings me into conflict with what everyone else is doing. During these times, I need to trust the supernatural help of the Holy Spirit within me, who literally “moves” me to live by God’s ways (See Ezek. 36:27).
PRAYER: YHWH my God, I choose today to put on the New Me! I declare that I am created to be like you in true righteousness and holiness. Help me as I choose to reflect you in my choices today.
